The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a satirical, Gen Z-led political movement in India, founded in May 2026 to protest youth disenfranchisement and education system issues.

Overview and Formation

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was founded on 16 May 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke, a former Aam Aadmi Party social media strategist, in response to remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant who referred to some activists and unemployed youth as "cockroaches" and "parasites of society". The movement is a satirical parody of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, using humor and social media to highlight youth frustrations, unemployment, and systemic issues in India.

    Religion, caste, and gender are not considered in membership.

  • Active on X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms
  • Uses AI-generated content and memes to engage youth.

Offline Activities and Protests

CJP has transitioned from online satire to real-world activism:

  • June 6, 2026: First major protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged exam irregularities, including NEET and CBSE paper leaks.
  • Subsequent protests planned in Pune, Lucknow, Amritsar, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad 
  • Volunteers participate in protests and clean-up drives dressed in cockroach costumes 
  • The movement emphasizes peaceful, non-violent demonstrations.

Manifesto and Key Demands

CJP’s five-point manifesto and additional proposals include:

  • Ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for Chief Justices
  • Arrest of Chief Election Commissioner for vote deletion under UAPA
  • 50% reservation for women in Parliament and Cabinet
  • Cancellation of media licenses owned by corporate groups to ensure independent media
  • 20-year ban on defecting MLAs/MPs from contesting elections
  • Accountability under the RTI Act and no secret funds like PM CARES.
  • Supported by Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.Criticized by some for potential political orchestration but  widely seen as a voice for Gen Z frustrations
